Why a Blog, Why Now?
Good question. I have dabbled in most of the "internet arts" but never a blog. This one was born out of frustration more than anything else. There are dozens of communities/forums/chat rooms I have frequented but none have fulfilled the three subjects in my title. There are the Catholic forums which answer questions about faith, but when it comes to having clarity and objectivity in the events of the World they are lacking. [It is not the Vatican I am disillusioned with on this point, instead the "Nationalist Christians."] There are forums which more accurately address the events of the World but wallow in skepticism and ridicule when it comes to any "organized religion." There are forums which specifically deal with the daily concerns of the family but don't venture beyond that sphere.
But to me, all three are intertwined. I cannot separate an injustice which occurs in another place with the continuing formation myself and my family. Only with God, who is Truth, can there exist an objective morality which transcends all other things. Otherwise there is no "right" and there is no "good." It is this objective morality which allows me to know what the word "injustice" means. It seems that most of the time others try to tear these elements out of their continuum and treat them as if they were isolated. My attempts to address them together will be weak, I am sure. All I really want to do is to have a place where I can talk about all three openly without fear or inhibitions, to bring them together as I have so often longed to do in other communities.
Then there is the question... Why care about the things of the World when you have God? Why be concerned about the future? My connotation of "the World" meaning the affairs of people, not the physical world (though I'm sure I will bring that in often enough too). I suppose it's because I have always been an idealist and an optimist underneath my tough skeptic's skin. There is always a chance, however small, of righting the wrongs which happen on this planet and making it a place which resembles heaven more than hell. It doesn't matter whether the subject is God, or the World, or the Family... a person must learn to be able to do anything. Perhaps these musings will inform you of things you had not known before, and that's half the battle.

I am glad you have found blogging Kristin! I really enjoy it. I know I am not a great writer (not even in your same catagory) and I have a hard time putting my thoughts into words but I like to be able to try and I enjoy reading what others have to say as well. I really enjoyed reading this entry - I too have struggled with finding people/groups who are similar to me. I look forward to reading more.
Kristin, I love the idea for your blog. I've read lots of blogs about those issues, but none that really combine them, so I think yours will be a great addition to the blogosphere.
